Greg Genz lives in south St. Paul, Minn. with his wife and twin girls and a son nesting in St. Cloud. Greg is a product of many years of college education interrupted by stints on towboats.

Greg got his first towboat when he was 10 years old. The engineer showed him the big engines, the cook gave him a big bowl of ice cream and he fell in love with the river. He started working on the river as a wharf rat, fueling and supplying boats before he became a deckhand and eventually a pilot.

He’s worked in all aspects of barge operations, including crewing boats, dispatching, barge maintenance and sales.

Greg has worked in subsequent years as the marine manager of a company engaged in private and COE dredging and construction projects. His current jobs consist of consulting on marine projects, rentals of owned boats and barges and management of river related real estate.

He also works part time, as a safety boat driver for Wilderness Inquiry Urban Wilderness Canoe Trips. He serves as the vice president and co-founder of Friends of Pool 2, board member and past vice president of Friends of the Minnesota Valley, board member of Red Wing Marine Museum, past vice president of Twin City Propeller Club and many more organizations.
